Fritz GUI ... is there a way around this ???!!!

  • Quote

Postby M ANSARI »

I have the Fritz 14 GUI and this is driving me nuts. I remember it happening some time back but I thought this was fixed. I start an engine to look at one of my online games, I have Infinite Analysis on and then I try a new line ... and the engine just stalls for about 30 seconds. Hmmm ... I figured must be the engine hogging all resources ... so I make the engine use 5 cores instead of 6 cores (I have 6 core Intel CPU) ... and the same thing happens.

I can't imagine that there is no way around this. How many cores do I need to dedicate for the GUI so this doesn't happen?

How much ram is the engine using and how much do you have on your system?

I have 64GB RAM on system ... should be plenty. The engine works fine it is just when I try an alternate line the engine will stall for about 20 or 30 seconds and it is extremely annoying!

How about changing the priority on the process. ring up the task manager, highlight the fritz exe/chessbase exe and select a higher priority for the program. It should NOT be doing this in general though

Have u checked the temp of the CPU. u probably hva edesktop but that might not be an issue but i have a few times where the tower was on the floor (carpet) and then I cleaned the CPU and it ran much better

Do changing priority of Fritz GUI interfere with engine performance?

I'm also experiencing this issue and it's very annoying for sure.

I am absolutely sure it is not a hardware issue as I have many ways of testing when hardware is not performing well. I used to get around it before when I would setup a remote engine on another computer and so am pretty sure it has something to do with software. If I change priorities, does that make the engine weaker?

By the way ... recently upgraded to Windows 10 and the problems mysteriously disappeared. The GUI seems to work fine now and engines won't stall.

Ah, and I was about to write that 'it sounds like a Windows issue'.
