Can you use two research benches in RimWorld? ›

Multiple research benches can be used concurrently; as soon as you have the resources and manpower to spare, you may want to have 2 researchers operating at once.

To research new technology in RimWorld, you must first craft a Simple Research Bench. This early-game research tool is necessary to unlock additional technologies that allow you to construct or craft new items.

At each increase in Tech Level players gain access to a new level of research bench capable of researching higher technologies. Any bench starting at level 2 and above can be upgraded to the next level by clicking and hitting upgrade button. There is no need to remove the old bench and build from scratch.

you could always build another research bench and have multiple people researching at a time. Also, build them chairs and place them in comfortable, well lit "research" rooms to not get a penalty to research speed.

Personally, I find that six to eight colonists is the ideal number. It's manageable while still increasing the colony's power, allowing you to take on most raids or random events in the game. I know many people prefer 10-12, however. It's up to you!

Each shelf gives thrice the storage space. They can store and "mask" many ugly items in your workstation, allow more meat into your freezer, protect weapons and mortar shells from deterioration, etc.

So, if you want to make the room "very impressive", it should have a space of at least around 25 (which still counts as "rather tight" in the game). E.g. a furnished bedroom with a 5x5 or 4×6 footprint would be fine, and a little smaller could still work, but it would be a challenge to get there with a 4x4 room.

The first research item you want to rush as soon as possible is the Battery* and the Solar Panel* to provide a steady power source and to store power from unstable power sources such as the wind turbine or solar panel. It does not take very long, so turn up the researching priority on your researcher.

Technology falls into 8 different categories, with 6 different levels, the higher level permits more advanced technology in their respective category.

Roughly, the Adaption Factor means Rimworld tries to make the game harder if it thinks the player is doing well, and easier if it thinks the player is doing poorly. Time passed since the deaths of colonists, and time passed since the downing of colonists are the major aspects that Adaption Factor considers.

you can have a maximum of 5 active settlements at once (though you need to enable it in the options menu and select how many you want, by default you can only have 1 settlement and need to abandon it to create a new one). Settlements work similar to how caravans and world quest locations work.

If there is any difference between what is enabled and what's contained in a save file, the game will notify the player of this. World data is saved into the map file, to allow multiple saves on the same world without confusion.

Since Alpha 16, you can have up to 5 colonies running at the same time (available in Options > Gameplay). The larger you extend the more benefits and difficulties you will gain.
